Double Rifles

The term ‘Express’ to describe double rifles was coined by James Purdey the Younger in the 1850s.

He likened the performance of Purdey double rifles to that of an ‘Express Train’ because of their flat trajectory, heavy weight and high speed.

Built on Purdey's self-opening action with bolstered sides and extended top and bottom straps.
With hinged front trigger and bolted non-automatic safety catch.
Sling swivels are also available if required.

We make the majority of our rifles in the following calibres, each on a dedicated action size: .375, .470, 500, 577 and .600.

Full pistol grip with metal cap box, cheek piece and leather covered recoil pad.

Chopper lump construction from 23’ to 26’ - express rearsights, large or small bead foresight with flip-up moonsight and folding shroud.

Available with beavertail forend and telescopic sights if required.
